Das prim�re mediastinale Seminom

Die seltenen primaren extragonadalen Seminome sind mit in die Differentialdiagnose des unklaren Mediastinaltumors einzubeziehen. Die Symptomatik ist uncharakteristisch, die Diagnose wird in den meisten Fallen durch eine Thoracotomie bzw. Sternotomie gestellt. Therapeutisch steht das chirurgische Vorgehen mit kurativer Zielsetzung oder palliativer Tumorverkleinerung im Vordergrund. Bei makroskopisch vollstandig entferntem Tumor ist die Nachbestrahlung des Mediastinums zu diskutieren, bei metastasierendem Tumor sollte postoperativ eine Chemotherapie mit Cisplatin enthaltenden Kombinationen durchgefuhrt werden.

Malignant germ cell tumors in childhood: results of the first Italian cooperative study "TCG 91".

Background and Aims About 20% of patients with germ cell tumor (GCT) are still resistant to therapy. To investigate which features are present in resistant patients, a multicenter study on GCT in children was undertaken to correlate clinical and laboratory parameters with the outcome. Methods Patients aged less than 16 years, with histologically proven extracranial GCT were included. Results Ninety-five patients (median age 33 months, 45 males) were eligible. The site of the primary tumor was gonadal in 59, extragonadal in 36. Objectives: The first consensus report presented by the European Germ Cell Cancer Consensus Group (EGCCCG) in the year 2004 has found widespread approval by many colleagues throughout the world. In November 2006, the group met a second time under the auspices of the Department of Urology of the Amsterdam Medical Center, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
